For their Black History Month assemblies on February 18, the Primary School welcomed author and storyteller Ada Ari, who shared her African Storytelling Reimagined presentation with the community. Originally from Nigeria, Ada is on a mission to promote an awareness of and appreciation for African culture and legacy.

At the beginning of her interactive and fun presentation, Ada got students on their feet as they learned to dance the Azonto, before sharing her story, The Spider’s Thin Legs, with them. This retelling of a traditional Ghanaian folktale introduced the students to Anansi the spider, and how his actions have had a long-lasting effect on spiders all over the world.

After reading the story, Ada invited students to explore various aspects of Ashanti and West African culture through hands-on interactions with authentic artifacts, like Kente cloth and the Golden Stool.

The students loved Ada’s presentation, as was evident by their enthusiastic participation throughout! We are so grateful that Ada was able to share her culture with all of us!
