WELCOME PARENTS AND GUARDIANS!
We know you have busy lives. We hope this page will help you find what you need to manage the WIS portion of your (and your child’s) life.
As you’ll see, there is information on this page to answer key questions. We also urge you to look at the Quicklinks menu if you are trying to find something. For instance, you’ll find school calendars, daily schedules, bus details, the faculty/staff directory, a link to our online stores, lunch information… and much more.
We also have a variety of password-protected information we can’t share here, but which you can access by logging in to onCampus, our student information system.
WISPA
Every WIS father, mother, and guardian is a member of WISPA, the WIS Parents Association, which aims to promote communication among parents and between parents and the school, to enhance the educational experience of our children, and to strengthen the school community.
WISPA also supports WIS's goals with respect to international-mindedness, diversity, and inclusion (IDI) and sustainability.
USEFUL INFORMATION
If your Primary School child will be absent, please contact Tony Fletcher at the front desk by phone or email before 9:00 AM; if your child is sick, please also inform the Primary School Nurse Jaime Zike by phone or email.
To report a Middle School student's absence contact Carmen Lluch by phone or email, and to report an Upper School student's absence contact Kaia Boe by phone or email. If a Middle or Upper School student will be absent due to illness, please also inform Nurse Molly Foa by phone or email and Nurse Courtenay Begert by email.
WIS's Annual Attendance Summary is available upon request.
If your Primary School child's afternoon pick-up arrangements change, please email Tony Fletcher before 2:00 PM and your child's teachers to let them know the new arrangements.
To report a Middle School student's change in dismissal contact Carmen Lluch by phone or email. Upper School students who leave WIS before the end of the school day must check in with the Upper School office.
If you need to contact any other member of the staff, you'll find the information in the Staff Directory.
DC residents can take advantage of the Kids Ride Free program. Complete the application and submit it to Kaia Boe (Upper School); Carmen Lluch (Middle School) or Tony Fletcher (Primary School).
Here are the people to contact/call if you have a question:
Any logistical question—e.g. drop-off/pick-up times, need to get a message to a child mid-day—should be directed to Tony Fletcher at the Primary School (phone/email), Carmen Lluch at the Middle School (phone/email) and Kaia Boe at the Upper School (phone/email).
Any health-related issue should be addressed with the nurse: (phone/email) for Jaime Zike at the Primary School and Molly Foa (email) or Courtenay Begert (email) for Middle/Upper Schools. Both the Tregaron nurses can be reached by phone.
Academic questions should most often be directed to a child's teacher (at least that's the best place to start). You can find all teachers' email addresses via the Staff Directory. As teachers do not answer their phones during the day, email is typically the best method of communication.
If you move, or need to let WIS know about a new email or phone number for any member of your family, please email the information to us.
A little snow creates a whole lot of chaos in Washington, DC. With a school population that includes a significant number of families and employees who live outside of northwest Washington, DC, we consider circumstances for the entire region when making decisions regarding closures and/or delays on snowy/icy mornings. Factors involved include: road conditions, Metro/bus operations, weather predictions, and announcements made by regional school systems and local employers.
If WIS is closed or delayed due to inclement weather and/or snow, we will post an announcement on the WIS home page and send a text/email alert, usually before 6:00 AM. If WIS does not make a specific announcement using the methods above, school is in session on a regular schedule.
In the event of ANY unplanned closure—such as a snow/inclement weather day—learning will proceed as follows:
- Middle and Upper School students will learn from home based on their regular schedule.
- Preschool through Grade 3: the schedule and activities for the day will be posted in Seesaw.
- Grades 4 and 5: the schedule and activities for the day will be posted in Google Classrooms.
